NuVision™ is a newOphthalmic Biotech recent spin-out company from the University of Nottingham. The company was established to commercialise high quality and affordable biotherapies for treating ‘front of the eye’ disease and trauma.NuVision clean room clinical manufacturing laboratories, licenced by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and offices are based is based at MediCity, Boots Enterprise Zone in Nottingham.
NuVision is unique in that we are the UK’s first ophthalmic biotech, formed from and supported by a world leading academic corneal research and development group at the University of Nottingham
The company’s launch product is Omnigen™, a biological wound dressing which aids the regeneration and healing of the surface of the eye. Omnigen™ is a first of its kind human amniotic membrane-derived dry preserved biological wound dressing which is set to revolutionise the clinical management corneal disease.
What we are looking for:
NuVision is looking for an exceptional and committed junior biological scientist to join the manufacturing and product development team. The role will be based in the MediCity facilities but will also work closely with the academic research group at the University of Nottingham. In combination with an apprenticeship program, you will gain valuable experience in providing a wide range of practical work within a hi-tech and regulated clean room laboratory and Biotechnology company. If successful, you can expect to be involved in the following....
Running and maintaining the following pieces of equipment including agrade A isolator, and freeze dryer.
Assisting the manufacturing team in all aspects of maintaining and cleaning a GMP clean room facility.
Packaging and labeling quality assurance approved product, and processing orders for clinical distribution.
Maintaining laboratory consumables and reagent stocks through track and trace systems.
Learning to work with and process human tissues to regulatory standards
Learning how to carry out laboratory work under sterile and aseptic conditions and to quality controlled standards
Learning how to accurately record laboratory data in line with Human Tissue Authority regulatory requirement
Learn how to carry our research and development to improve manufacturing throughput and upselling
Learning how to do equipment and workspace risk assessments.
Learning how to run a clean room laboratory fulfilling regulatory and health and safety requirements.
You will receive extensive on the job training and support in both our academic research and clean room manufacturing environments, as well as completing an Advanced Apprenticeship qualification. So who are we looking for ?

5 GCSE's or equivalent which must include Math, English and Double Science
A or A/S levels ( or equivalent ) which includes at least two of the following subjects; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
Great progression into higher education can be provided after apprenticeship.
Initial applications in the form of a CV and letter of support are to be submitted to Dr Andrew Hopkinson, CEO, firstname.lastname@example.org. Selected candidates will be invited to take part in a 2-3 week joint work experience trial split between the University of Nottingham, Academic Ophthalmology research laboratories and NuVision MediCity facility for practical assessment and then the successful candidate will progress to a full time post and apprenticeship in September.
