Polymer Research Technician
This is an ideal opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, working in a friendly team within a fast-growing company based at Alderley Edge (20m south of Manchester).
Econic Technologies is a young, highly innovative, and fast growing chemical technology company. We develop and commercialise novel catalyst technologies to turn CO2 into polyurethanes and other polymers. Our team is looking for a research technician to assist the Application Development team with the testing and analysis of products.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need to enjoy working in a small team of scientists and engineers, be willing to learn new techniques and skills and be self-motivated. An excellent track record of safe hands-on experimental chemistry is critical. Knowledge of polymer chemistry, analysis or (mechanical) testing techniques are an advantage.
As our Polymer Research Technician you will be an important team member in Application Development.
The Research Technician will:
Work alongside the development team, performing technical duties such as basic chemical reactions and analysis. These will include:
- Viscosity measurements
- NMR and IR spectroscopy
Potential to learn ed oscopy.
Performing technical duties such as chemical reactions and analysis and applying other testing techniques including tensile properties, hardness, abrasion resistance etc.
Record all work and outcomes in a clear, organised and comprehensive manner.
Maintain in-house laboratory equipment.
Maintain stock levels of consumables and glassware within the labs.
Proactively seek to ensure a safe working environment and follow Econic’s safe working practices.
Educational background and experience
BSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Material Science, or Polymer Science.
A minimum of one year experience in a chemistry laboratory.
Knowledge of polyurethane chemistry would be an advantage but not essential.
The ability to generate & analyse reliable scientific data.
The ability to express ideas clearly in spoken and written form.
The potential to learn new skills and techniques.

The ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships.

This is 6 months full time contract but flexibility in hours may be negotiated for personal/family responsibilities. Salary range £1,300-£1,600 per month depending on experience.
