The Pennyfoot Street complex got to the final of the Enterprising Britain awards where it is up against 11 other locations.

The overall winner will be announced in Downing Street and will then go on to compete against continental contestants in the Enterprising Europe awards.

BioCity has been singled out because it has become home to 60 science-based businesses employing nearly 500 people.

Glenn Crocker, chief executive of BioCity said: "Getting through to the national stage of the competition gives a great boost to the team here at BioCity and to a host of supporters.

"We look forward to the forthcoming results, anything that raises the profile of BioCity, the great companies based here and of Nottingham as a place for bioscience is a good thing, and I'm sure there will be more profile raising activity to come, whatever the outcome is on the night."
