Successful BioCity tenant Good Products flies the nest

2nd February 2009

Good Products, the pharmaceutical electronic document management company launched just 22 months ago, will move from the busy business incubator environment of BioCity Nottingham to purpose-built offices on Lenton Lane in early February. The move is a text-book example of how BioCity Nottingham exists to nurture and assist the growth of bioscience and healthcare related companies, and prepares them for growth beyond the fast-expanding campus on Pennyfoot Street.

Founded by Keith Williams in 2007 to provide a simpler, more efficient system for the handling of complex pharmaceutical and other compliance documentation, Good Products now incorporates the existing GXP Consulting business (www.gxp.co.uk) and has already achieved a turnover of £1 million. The company now employs seven plus a US-based employee in Irvine, California and a company chairman, Dr. Neil Rotherham who founded the successful Nottingham technology business, ClinPhone. Despite the current economic environment, the intention is to add a further six to the team this year.

“BioCity Nottingham was the obvious place to start out” says Keith Williams. “We soon noticed the benefit of being close to others in the bio-pharmaceutical sector, information and advice was easy to access and we have taken advantage of all the networking opportunities provided. Becoming a member of Medilink East Midlands and taking every opportunity to take advice from BioCity staff added to the support our growing company required.”

Commenting on the move, Dr Glenn Crocker BioCity CEO said: “BioCity is only designed to take companies to a certain size, at which point it’s time to move on. I’m very pleased we were able to help Good Products get to that point so quickly. The company may be relocating but they will always be part of the wider BioCity community and will continue to benefit from our contacts and influence. Moreover, Good Products’ departure frees up much needed space for other successful businesses to expand into.”

Good Products is just one of several companies based in BioCity who are reporting a strong trading start to the year. The encouraging signs of contacts won, new partnerships created and staff appointments provide welcome news amidst the otherwise pessimistic economic outlook.

Dr Crocker is cautiously optimistic: “our sector is not recession-proof and there may well be difficulties in the coming months, however BioCity is probably one of the best places to be based if trading gets tough.”
